GitLab Hackathon

The GitLab Hackathon is a week-long virtual event where everyone can contribute to GitLab projects. Our hackathons are community events focused on collaboration and innovation.

Why participate?

  • Win prizes, level up, and unlock GitLab profile achievements
  • Gain practical experience through coding, documentation, translation, UX design (and more!)
  • Collaborate with a globally diverse open source community

Join the hackathon

Create a merge request anytime during the 7 day hackathon period. @gitlab-bot will automatically apply the Hackathon label, denoting that the MR qualifies for the hackathon.

How it works

The GitLab Hackathon runs for 7 days in UTC time. GitLab reviewers check merge requests (MRs) Monday through Friday.

  • All gitlab-org, gitlab-com, and components projects qualify
  • Merge requests must be merged within 31 days after the hackathon ends
  • Track your progress on the leaderboard below
